Marie, tell us the story behind Marie Raxevsky — how did the brand begin?
Marie Raxevsky was born in 2021 from a very personal need. I wanted to create swimwear and resort wear for children that felt as refined and thoughtfully designed as luxury pieces for adults. As a mother and creative director, I couldn’t find pieces that combined elegance, comfort, and exceptional quality in a way that truly reflected Mediterranean living. So I decided to create them myself. What began as a children’s swimwear line in Athens gradually evolved into a full family resort wear brand — celebrating summer, togetherness, and timeless style.
What inspired you to create a children’s fashion brand rooted in Greece?
Greece is summer. It is light, sea, white architecture, and endless blue. Children grow up surrounded by this beauty — and I wanted a brand that captured that feeling. Greek summers are about freedom, family, and long days by the water. That emotional landscape has always been my greatest inspiration.
How has your heritage influenced the brand’s identity?
I was raised in a family deeply connected to the textile and fashion world — my mother and grandfather were both in the industry. Some of my earliest memories are wandering through our family’s factory, surrounded by fabrics, textures, and colours, creating clothes for my dolls. From a very young age, I knew I wanted to build my own namesake brand — one that would reflect my aesthetic: refined, joyful, and deeply Mediterranean.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Family life inspires me the most — the idea of matching moments, siblings playing together, parents and children sharing summer memories. But of course, the sea and Greek architecture are constant references. The simplicity of white, the intensity of blue, the movement of water — all of these elements subtly influence each collection.
What makes Greek summer style so special for children?
Greek summer style is effortless. It’s natural elegance without trying too hard. Children are barefoot, sun-kissed, free. Clothing needs to be beautiful but never restrictive. That balance — simplicity with sophistication — is what makes it so unique.
What do you prioritise when designing a new collection?
I prioritise fabric, fit, and feeling. We work with high-quality European fabrics, many with UPF protection and recycled fabrics. The fit must allow movement and comfort. And emotionally, the piece must evoke summer — lightness, confidence, happiness.
Why is quality so important in children’s clothing?
Children are constantly moving — they swim, run, explore, sit in the sand. Quality ensures durability, protection, and comfort. But beyond functionality, quality is a form of respect — respect for the child wearing the piece and for the parent choosing it.
How would you describe the Marie Raxevsky aesthetic in three words?
What makes a piece unmistakably “Marie Raxevsky”?
Our exclusive prints, refined silhouettes, and subtle sense of luxury. There is always a balance between playful and polished. And of course, our family matching concept — that emotional storytelling is at the heart of our DNA.
What do you hope children feel when they wear your pieces?
Confident and happy. I want them to feel free to move, to play, to shine — while still feeling special. Clothing should enhance childhood, not restrict it.
How do you ensure your pieces are both beautiful and practical?
Every design is tested in real life. We consider how a child will move, swim, or sit. Our swimwear includes UPF protection, soft linings, and durable construction. Beauty must always coexist with function.
What trends are you loving for children this season?
I love elevated minimalism — clean lines with bold, joyful prints. Also coordinated family dressing continues to grow, which aligns beautifully with our philosophy.
What is your favourite family holiday destination?
The Greek islands will always have my heart, especially Antiparos and Skiathos. There is something magical about the Aegean light — it inspires me every single time.
What is one holiday item for children you can’t live without?
A beautiful, protective swimsuit with UPF. It’s practical, essential, and when designed well, it becomes the highlight of their summer wardrobe.
